The book it claims to be based on is written by Elly Conway ostensibly a real person.

Matthew had even claimed to have read an “early draft” of the manuscript.
When more details about the movie’s plot came out, eyebrows were further raised.

The book, on the other hand,doesn’t seemto have any metafictional elements.
Given that Matthewrecentlysaid, “There is a Elly Conway.
She lives somewhere in the United States.”

It even says “the book that inspired the major motion picture” right on the front cover.

Plenty of folks online certainly thought so.
