“Oh my God.
This moment is so much bigger than me.
This moment is for Dorothy Dandridge, Lena Horne, Diahann Carroll.

It’s for the women that stand beside me, Jada Pinkett, Angela Bassett, Vivica Fox.”
I’m so honored.
I’m so honored.

And I thank the Academy for choosing me to be the vessel for which His blessing might flow."
Before Halle, only six Black women had been nominated for the Oscar.
After her win, only seven Black women have been nominated since.

“Im continually saddened by that year after year.
And its certainly not because there has been nobody deserving.”
The Oscars debuted in 1929.

But even then, she was sitting at asegregated"Blacks only" section in the room.
