Selena wasdiagnosedwith lupus, an autoimmune disease where theimmune systemattacks healthy tissue and organs, in 2013.

She has been candid about the many struggles that have ensued, including needing a kidney transplant in 2017.
Part of her interest in adoption stems from the fact that Selena’s mother was adopted.
“I probably wouldnt be here [without the adoption].

I dont know what her life wouldve been like.
She and I are very thankful for how life played out,” Selena added.
I havent ever said this, she continued, but I unfortunately cant carry my own children.

I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the babys in jeopardy.
That was something I had to grieve for a while.
Its not necessarily the way I envisioned it, she noted of potential motherhood.

I thought it would happen the way it happens for everyone.
[But] Im in a much better place with that.
Im one of those people.

Im excited for what that journey will look like, but itll look a little different.
At the end of the day, I dont care.
Itll be my baby,” she added.
